Examples of some of the preventive procedures performed in our office are:

Prophylaxis
Fluoride
Sealants
Space Maintainers

Prophylaxis - A dental prophylaxis includes the scaling and polishing of teeth to remove plaque, calculus and stain. Some patients require more than one appointment or one extended visit to complete the cleaning. Whether it is a simple or extensive visit that is necessary, it is vitally important for patients to come in for regular cleanings to maintain the overall health of the teeth and gums.

Fluoride - We provide fluoride treatments to our patients, both young and old. Fluoride is a naturally occurring substance which can strengthen tooth enamel, making the tooth more resistant to decay.

Sealants - A dental sealant is a clear or shaded plastic material that is painted directly onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, the place where tooth decay is most likely to occur. Sealants help prevent food and bacteria from becoming trapped in areas that are difficult to keep clean with a toothbrush.

Space Maintainers - A space maintainer is placed in a patient’s mouth to prevent tooth movement, such as when a child loses a deciduous (baby) tooth prematurely. By placing a space maintainer, the other teeth are unable to move and the space is held until the adult tooth is ready to erupt into place.
